Finance

With academic employment as its core objective, the doctoral program in finance cultivates highly qualified financial talents who can engage in research and solve practical problems for domestic and international universities and research institutions as well as government departments and large financial institutions.

Founded in 1985, the Department of Finance has a strong faculty and academic research background covering all major fields of finance. Our department is dedicated to researching basic financial theories and practical problems in China, serving China's economic development and the improvement of the financial market, and has trained more than 150 doctoral students to date.

Research Areas

Corporate finance, asset pricing, financial engineering, banking and financial institutions, market microstructure, behavioral finance, financial econometrics, insurance and actuarial, international trade and finance.

Faculty

There are 28 full-time faculty members in the Department of Finance, all of whom have their doctoral degrees. Seventeen of them have earned their doctoral degrees from overseas universities, such as Harvard University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, University of Toronto, New York University, University of Oxford, University of Texas at Austin, University of Maryland, Washington University in St. Louis, and University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. The faculty have published numerous high-quality papers in leading domestic and international journals. They have extensive influence in academia, the financial industry and government agencies.

Curriculum

Our department offers PhD-level courses in line with international standards, such as Advanced Macroeconomics, Advanced Microeconomics, Financial Economics, Advanced Capital Market Theory, Advanced Corporate Finance Theory, Empirical Finance, Financial Derivative Securities, Bond Markets, and Banking and Financial Institutions. Through rigorous coursework and original academic writing, doctoral students become proficient in financial theory, able to fully understand the practical problems of China's financial system, and skilled in research. The doctoral students in the finance department have published in top domestic and international journals.

Placements

Our doctoral graduates can apply their talents to different fields with rigorous academic training as their core competence. Some alumni have entered higher education in major universities (such as Tsinghua University, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences University, Renmin University, Central University of Finance and Economics, Xiamen University, University of International Business and Economics, Southwest University of Finance and Economics, Sun Yat-sen University, and Shenzhen Graduate School of Harbin Institute of Technology), and some have found work in large financial institutions (Harvest Fund Management Company Limited, CITIC Securities, Central Ltd., China International Capital Corporation, and Agricultural Bank of China), government departments (Banking Regulatory Commission, People's Bank of China, Ningxia Development and Reform Commission, Guangdong Provincial Banking Regulatory Bureau, and National Information Center), financial departments of large enterprises (China Minsheng Investment Corporation, Donghua Software Corporation, and Hunan Construction Industry Group Corporation), and international organizations (IMF).
