The doctoral program in Management Science and Engineering is committed to cultivating high-level academic talents for universities, governments, and other research institutions. The Department of Management Science and Engineering, formerly known as the Department of Management Engineering at Tsinghua University, was established in 1979 and started recruiting graduate students in management engineering. Our department began conferring a doctoral degree in Systems Engineering in 1981 and established a postdoctoral program in Management Science and Engineering in 1985.

Research Areas

Information systems, e-commerce, social media, emerging e-commerce technology, business management in a big data environment, business intelligence and decision support systems, data models and fuzzy information processing, operations research, statistical models and their business application, supply chain management, production and operations management, service management, and healthcare management.

Curriculum

A solid and broad theoretical foundation, as well as systematic and in-depth management knowledge, are provided for doctoral students in our program. The knowledge structure of the curriculum includes not only basic theoretical knowledge and professional knowledge, but also cross-disciplinary knowledge.

Academic Research

Our doctoral program is broad and comprehensive, and with its high academic level it is a leader in China. It has hosted numerous high-level international academic conferences and researched many scientific projects, which together establish its active role in promoting the development of management science and engineering disciplines in China. Moreover, its researchers have published numerous academic papers in prominent domestic and international academic journals.

Our program has produced many outstanding doctoral graduates. Recently, our alumni were hired by top international and domestic universities (National University of Singapore, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Renmin University of China, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Nanjing University, and Shanghai University of Finance and Economics), government departments, large state-owned enterprises and internationally renowned multinational companies engaged in Internet business, finance, consulting, and other industries.
